JK Rowling Shares Thoughts On HBO’s Harry Potter, Clarifies Is Not A Writer For The Series

HBO recently announced the cast for its upcoming Harry Potter reboot, including the three main leads. Fans are elated to know that the new Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley have been casted and filming for the show is to start soon. It was rumoured that JK Rowling was a writer for the reboot; however, the author recently revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that she is not writing for the show but is working closely with the screenwriters.

JK Rowling On The New HBO Harry Potter Reboot

In a recent exchange with a fan on Saturday, JK Rowling clarified that she is not a writer for the reboot. However, she did say that she has worked closely with the present writers of the series and that they are very talented. Rowling also revealed that the script for the first 2 episodes is very good.

Rowling’s Controversial Image

Despite the success of the book series and movie franchise, the author has gained a controversial reputation for herself in recent years. JK Rowling has been criticised for her transphobic views and comments by the Harry Potter fandom. Actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint- the original leads of Harry Potter have distanced themselves from her.

Rupert Grint seemingly took a jibe at Rowling in a 2020 interview with Us Weekly. In it, the actor said that he stands with the trans community. He said that trans men are men and everybody should be entitled to love with judgement in the society.

Even after so much backlash, Rowling remained undeterred on her transphobic stance. Paapa Essiedu, the actor playing Professor Snape has signed an open letter calling for supporting the UK’s trans community in the entertainment industry.

The petition is signed by over 400 big names in the acting industry including Eddie Redmayne and Katie Leung. The petition was raised after the UK Supreme Court ruled that transgender woman should not be legally recognized as women. The ruling is publically supported by JK Rowling.
