A recent viral post on popular Korean discussion forum Pann has sparked a heated debate online after accusing BLACKPINK’s Jennie of copying MAMAMOO member Hwasa’s style. The post, which has already garnered over 95,000 views and hundreds of comments, claimed that Jennie’s current image and style increasingly resemble that of Hwasa, raising suspicions of the XtraL singer copying her.
“Lately, why does Jennie give off such Hwasa vibes?” the original poster wrote, attaching several photos of Jennie from recent appearances that are similar to Hwasa’s. “Honestly, it feels like Jennie is copying Hwasa.” The poster also said.
Netizens’ Reaction to the Accusations
However, the majority of netizens do not see such similarities. Many fans were quick to come to Jennie’s defence, calling the comparison between the two female K-pop idols baseless and pointing out that both idols have clearly defined and individual styles. Comments flooded in rejecting the accusation, with one user writing, “What is this… Even Hwasa fans would be baffled by this post.”
Others suggested the post was made from a point of jealousy, with another commenter stating that the post was originally made to bring down Jennie, as her solo album is currently doing very well. A commenter also pointed out that the singer has no reason to copy Hwasa, as neither of them look alike at all.
However, not all reactions were entirely in Jennie’s favour. Some netizens voiced concern about the global direction of her recent styling, claiming that her style has evolved too much and not in a good way. They accused her of looking ‘Western’ and revealing too much skin, which, in their opinion, looks trashy, not hot.
Despite the mixed responses, it’s clear that most Korean people continue to support Jennie. Dismissing the accusations and hailing her as one of the biggest global trendsetters in the industry, famous for her personal style and fashion.
Jennie And Hwasa’s Upcoming Projects
Jennie recently released her solo debut album titled ‘Ruby’. The album was a hit and included songs like ‘XtraL’, ‘Pretty Girl Mantra’ and ‘Handlebars’ featuring Dua Lipa. Hwasa is currently on her first-ever solo tour in North America, titled “HWASA LIVE TOUR [Twits]”. Hwasa’s most recent solo album, “O”, was released in 2024.
