Recently, the popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory was called out for its sexist and derogatory remarks about well-known Indian actresses Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Netflix, the OTT platform that currently airs the show also received a legal notice for removing it. Jaya Bachchan, a veteran actor and politician has also reacted to the specific scene from the show and showed utter disappointment in it. She also went on to condemn actor Kunal Nayyar who played the role of Raj Koothrapalli and made a lewd remark about Madhuri Dixit on the show.
The legal notice received by Netflix specifically pointed out the scene from The Big Bang Theory where Jim Parsons’ character called Aishwarya Rai Bachchan a poor persons’ Madhuri Dixit. In response to that, Kunal Nayyar AKA Raj Koothrapalli compared Madhuri Dixit to a “Leprosy Prostitute”. Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan reacted to this controversy during an interview and slammed Kunal Nayyar for such remarks on the show. She further commented saying that the actor should be sent to the mental asylum. Jaya Bachchan also questioned the actor’s sanity and said that he had a “Gandi Zubaan” roughly translated as “Dirty Tongue.” It’s usually said to condemn people who use slang and derogatory terms for other people.
Jaya Bachchan also said that Kunal Nayyar’s family should also be asked for an opinion on this kind of content, as per the news.
A political analyst Mithun Vijay Kumar recently shared the notice that he sent to Netflix about removing The Big Bang Theory from its platform since the show had many sexist and misogynistic remarks in it. He also pointed out the scene where Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were demeaned and insulted. Mithun Vijay Kumar also stated that he would take legal action against the OTT if his demands were not met.
