In the new documentary, Angry Young Men, Jaya Bachchan shared details about how the much-loved and superhit film Zanjeer was created. In the superhit film, Jaya played the character of Mala, and the entire film was focused on Amitabh Bachchan’s role as the popular Inspector Vijay Khanna. She mentioned that she was hesitant about taking the role at first and explained what eventually convinced her to accept it. Read to know!
Why Didn’t Jaya Bachchan Want To Be A Part Of Zanjeer?
Jaya Bachchan’s reason behind starring in the film is related to her husband and it’s adorable! In the doc-series, she stated that she didn’t really want to do Zanjeer. She further added she never liked being in films that focused mainly on men or male characters. The film was all about the male lead and Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar were very direct. Furthermore, they had approached other actresses who turned them down. They told her that she couldn’t refuse and they needed her. However, she further added that working with her co-star was also tempting. Hence, she thought it would be nice to spend time together and she decided to be a part of the film.
Later in the show, the writer duo, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar discussed how Zanjeer introduced a different kind of hero in Bollywood. Salim Khan stated that a fresh hero entered the film industry with Zanjeer and the hero was unique. He doesn’t sing, dance, or do comedy like other characters and the hero stood out the most. Furthermore, Javed added that because the character was portrayed authentically and not based on market trends. Hence, people still remember both the film and the character.
