Javed Akhtar Calls Out Sadhguru For Misleading Followers. Says THIS

Famous lyricist Javed Akhtar and spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev got into a heated debate several years ago. After massive name-calling, the latter accused the former of not using his brain. Responding to this, Akhtar accused Sadhguru of using ‘dangerous games’ to manipulate innocent people. He further torched on the difference between ‘faith’ and ‘belief’ and said that he has never encountered a spiritual guru he can respect. He was deeply offended by Sadhguru’s suggestion that a human being’s five senses aren’t reliable.

Javed Akhtar, Sadhguru’s Debate

At the conclave, Javed Akhtar claimed that spiritual leaders try to shake one’s confidence to control them. He said, “Now, if you really believe in this, why don’t you have a surgical procedure and remove your brain. Then let us see how he expands his personality. Whatever expansion happens, happens in your mind.” The two also had a heated debate on ‘faith.’

Javed Akhtar highlighted his scepticism toward concepts that don’t have reason, logic, evidence, or corroboration. He questioned the difference between faith and ignorance, saying that both seem to share the same foundational characteristics. While he acknowledged a willingness to accept belief, he emphasised that such belief must be grounded in rationality.

In response to this, Sadhguru suggested that Javed Akhtar’s remarks were based on certain assumptions. He recalled a previous conversation where Akhtar mentioned being advised by a spiritual teacher to avoid using his intellect. Sadhguru clarified that he was unaware of which teacher had given such advice, but pointed out that it appeared the advice had been followed. Akhtar, maintaining his critical stance, countered by asserting that he had never taken any spiritual teacher seriously.

In a more recent interview with Mid-day, Javed Akhtar recalled his earlier debate with Sadhguru and mocked what he described as the overly self-important nature of questions regarding human existence. He dismissed such questions as meaningless and driven by arrogance. Akhtar likened human life to that of insignificant creatures such as ants, cockroaches, or mosquitoes, suggesting that humans are no more significant, just marginally larger.
