Janhvi Kapoor On People Finding Female Rage Problematic
During the interview, the Ulajh actress said how writers and filmmakers always have an agenda that the protagonist should be likeable, especially the female protagonists. She further said, “Because, anyway, I feel more people go to watch male protagonists. So, if she is a morally ambiguous female protagonist, how will we root for this character? The Ulajh actor further stated, “I think female rage is something that people find very problematic.” Furthermore, she added, “When a woman gets angry, people become unnerved, like, Where is the anger coming from?”
Following the topic, she also agreed with the host about people having issues with opinionated women. She said, “I think so, and we have also ripped all of those bandages with Suhana (Janhvi’s character in Ulajh). Initially, she is very clear about what she thinks, but in the end, she realises what’s her aim, and she becomes unafraid of making harder and morally ambiguous decisions to safeguard what she thinks is important.” The Ulajh actor further added, “When a male protagonist makes a morally ambiguous decision or does something grey, most of the time they are celebrated. I don’t remember the last time a woman made a mistake and was celebrated on screen.”
