Janhvi Kapoor, who is currently promoting her next release Param Sundari, found herself the talk of social media recently after she attended a Dahi Handi function on Janmashtami. The actress, who had been invited to break the handi at the celebration, held the slogan Bharat Mata Ki Jai along with the audience. Although the gesture was intended to be celebratory, it quickly became meme material and a point of online criticism.

When some of the posts she was the butt of went viral, Janhvi used Instagram Stories to explain what had transpired. Posting an extended clip of what went down, she said the chant had already started when the mic was handed to her, and she was just continuing it. “If I hadn’t spoken up, they would have found that unusual too.”. The actor went a step further, saying that she has no hesitation in raising the patriotic slogan beyond the festival setting. “Why only on Janmashtami? I’ll say Bharat Mata Ki Jai every day,” she wrote confidently, making her stance clear to both critics and supporters.

At the same event, Janhvi also welcomed the audience in Marathi, wishing them on the festival of Janmashtami and thanking them for their hospitality. She used the opportunity to remind fans about her upcoming release, Param Sundari, which releases in theatres on August 29.
The romantic comedy, which is helmed by Dinesh Vijan, has a Delhi boy, who is played by Sidharth Malhotra, fall for a Kerala girl, played by Janhvi. Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya play supporting roles in the film.
