Fanmeetings at K-pop events often become a controversial topic. Due to limited time and security concerns, there have been incidents when these meet-and-greets fall short of meeting fans’ expectations. A recent meet-and-greet held for IVE at KCON USA has come under fire for only allowing fans to meet the girls for 6 seconds. What really angered fans was the price of the tickets that fans bought for this extremely brief meeting. Read on to know more.
Internet Appalled At IVE’s Overpriced Meet-And-Greet Event At KCON USA
A viral video of a fan’s brief meet and greet with K-pop girl group IVE at KCON USA in Los Angeles is currently going viral. The video clip has sparked an intense debate online. The clip, which was originally posted on TikTok, was captioned, “Just waving goodbye to my $110 for 6 seconds with IVE at KCON USA.” It showed fans waving at IVE before moving ahead.
Netizens were quick to question such short interactions for a ticket price of $110 (approximately Rs. 9600). Many even felt that the idols themselves looked tired and seemed like they did not want to be there. While others were shocked at the amount of money that the event costed, they felt that fans could do this at the airport for free.
The backlash also included comparisons to past KCON meet and greets. Several fans commented that in the past, fans were able to have a moment to speak with the idols; however, that is not the case anymore. They criticised KCON for being money-minded and failing to provide fans with an enjoyable meet and greet experience with their favourite groups. Some even reminisced about he old days where, during meetings and hi-touch events, they were allowed to hold hands and interact more with groups like TWICE and IZ*ONE.
