ITZY’s Yuna Gets Trolled For Allegedly Wearing Hip Pads. Can We Stop Commenting On Women’s Bodies?

ITZY’s Yuna is definitely one of the most famous female idols of the 4th generation in K-pop. She is known for her killer looks, bubbly personality, and amazing dance performances. Unfortunately, like many female idols in the Korean music industry, Yuna too has to regularly face a lot of trolling and hatred from people online. Haters have accused her of being a pick me, they criticise her singing and dancing skills, and constantly pick apart and comment on her body.

Girl group ITZY recently took the stage at a popular college festival where they performed some of their classic hits as well as newer songs. While all the girls look radiant, Yuna’s body shape has become a hot topic of discussion among people. The video of her performing their song ‘Cake’ went viral with over 15 million views. Many international fans believed that she had once again started using hip pads to accentuate her waist and hips.

In South Korea, hip pads have been very trendy lately, and there are several options available that give a very natural look. In particular, they are used to conceal hip dips and create a more hourglass figure. While Yuna’s viral “U Go Girl” performance appeared to highlight her naturally curvaceous shape, fans have been criticising that she looks unnatural in recent performances.

In an interview, Yuna also discussed her famous performance in which she flaunted her natural figure. She clarified that her love of Lee Hyori and Y2K was the reason behind her  choice of the outfit. Her low rise pants made it clear that couldn’t have worn hip pads or corrective underwear..

A lot of fans are also coming to Yuna’s defense by arguing that many Korean celebrities have been spotted using hip pads, so why is it only Yuna who gets trolled and harassed for her alleged use? Some even say that this is an issue of misogyny, as it’s very common for male idols to wear shoulder pads and insoles, but they are never called out for it. It is about time we stop overanalyzing women’s bodies and leave them be. Allowing them to wear whatever they feel like!
