Actor Isha Talwar was in the news recently after revealing a past encounter with Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) casting director, Shanoo Sharma. In a post under an article shared by a media house, Isha openly discussed how a strange request during an audition at the beginning of her career made her lose a lot of confidence.
Isha Talwar Accuses Shanoo Sharma of Breaking Her Confidence
Isha, who has worked in Mirzapur, Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, and Article 15, remembered Shanoo asking her to act out a crying scene, not in an audition space, but in the heart of a busy Mumbai restaurant. The actress said she was asked to cry on demand in Mia Cucina, a popular restaurant in Versova, with steady customers having meals around her.
As narrated by Isha, Shanoo and her team were seated close by when the spontaneous “audition” took place. She was informed that, being an aspiring actress, she ought to be ready to act anywhere without hesitation. Isha, however, felt gravely disturbed by the experience. It left her feeling perplexed and vulnerable, and it ended up rattling her confidence as a new entrant into the field.
Isha declined to proceed with the work and was not hired for the part. In retrospect, she asserts she does not regret it. She advised future actors to never do something which they do not feel comfortable with or feel coerced into, even at the cost of missing a role. Keeping their self-respect intact, she added, is much more vital than seeking approval.
Shanoo Sharma, who has been a part of YRF for years, gets the credit for casting the best Bollywood actors such as Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, and Arjun Kapoor. She was recently involved in casting newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in Saiyaara.
