Netflix’s popular hit survival thriller show Squid Game is officially coming to an end after season 3 premieres in June 2025. In spite of wild rumours online that a fourth season is coming, Squid Game won’t be back for Season 4. Netflix and the series’ creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, have both confirmed Season 3 will be the last instalment in the story of protagonist Seong Gi-hun. According to Hwang, the new season will wrap up the tale he originally started working on when the show premiered in 2021.
Is There Going To Be Squid Game Season 4?
In initial promos and teasers for season 3 teases Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) is seen coming to what appears to be a coffin, an ominous sign that has created suspense and anxiety among fans. But he’s alive and back in the game on a mission personal to him. Affected by the loss of his friend Jung-bae, Gi-hun re-enters the contest, this time determined to take down the horrific game. A new player, Jun-hee, a pregnant woman, attempts to keep going in the deadly games despite having a child. Her story also brings fresh stakes and ethical challenges, raising the show’s tension to new levels.
While all this is unfolding, the masked VIPS, the high-net-worth elites that place bets on the results of the games, shall eventually emerge from their shadows. Their intentions, power, and potential link with the origin of the game shall find themselves under scrutiny this season. Even though the central narrative will be over, the Squid Game franchise may not be bid adieu after all. Netflix has already ventured into the franchise with Squid Game: The Challenge, a competition reality show based on the series. No spin-offs and sequel projects have been announced, although to worldwide popularity of the show can sway the makers into other opportunities.
Until then, however, fans can wait for June 27, 2025, when Squid Game Season 3 drops on Netflix.
