=The romantic ballad, currently sitting at number 4 on Spotify’s Top Global chart, has drawn comparisons to One Direction’s Night Changes and Jubin Nautiyal’s Humnava Mere. Many online have questioned whether the melody was borrowed, prompting composer Tanishk Bagchi to address the criticism.
Tanishk Bagchi Reacts To Similarities Between Saiyaara Song And One Direction Song
In a recent conversation with India Today, Tanishk responded to the plagiarism claims by saying that comparisons are inevitable, especially when people are actively looking for faults. “People always have something to say,” he remarked. “They dig around just to find something to bring you down.
But the song has found its own path, and that’s what matters.” He went on to explain that while there may be overlapping musical elements, it doesn’t mean the song was copied. “Yes, the chord progression in A minor is limited; it’s just a few basic chords. But melodies are about emotion, not just notes,” he said. “There’s a difference between inspiration and copying. We didn’t lift anything. We created something that connected emotionally, and that’s why it’s working.”
Tanishk Bagchi also stressed that making a hit isn’t as simple as using a familiar tune. “Even if something sounds similar, turning it into a hit takes a lot more. Saiyaara worked because of its heart, not because of its chords.”
