Is Release Date Of Kangana Ranaut’s Film Emergency Being Postponed? Know All About Controversy Surrounding It
Here's all you need to know about all the controversies surrounding Kangana Ranaut's Emergency!

Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut is all set for her directorial debut with her film Emergency. But the release of this film was harder than she expected. From resistance from many Sikh organisations to waiting for clearance from the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC), Kangana Ranaut’s solo directorial is surrounded by controversies at the moment, leading to trouble in its release plan. Here is all you need to know about the controversies.
1. Awaiting Clearance From CBFC
The film has been pushed, and Kangana Ranaut stated that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cancelled its certificate following numerous petitions. In response to a petition seeking revocation of the screening certificate, the CBFC informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the film had not yet been cleared for public viewing. Solicitor General of India Satya Pal Jain from CBFC told the court that the CBFC takes every perspective into account and also ensures no sentiments of any religious group or anyone gets hurt before they issue the release.
2. Criticism Of The Portrayal Of The Sikh Community
The first few glimpses of the film stirred controversy regarding the portrayal of the Sikh community in the film. It caused an agitation in Punjab and amongst the Sikh people. The scene where it was shown that slain Sikh militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale has been in an alliance with Indira Gandhi has irked a lot of people.
The Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) filed a legal notification with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to halt the film’s release, claiming concerns about the representation of historical people. In the notification, issued by Delhi unit president Paramjit Singh Sarna, SAD claimed that the film misrepresents the Sikh community and fosters enmity. In addition, Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, who was elected as an independent MP from Faridkot this year, turned to Facebook to express concern that the film appeared to represent Sikhs in a negative light, thereby causing tensions among Punjab communities.
3. Call For A Ban
Sikh communities from parts of India such as Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Telangana, have called for a ban on the film. They say that the film disrespects historical figures and twists historical facts. They have also reached out to CBFC as well as the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to call for a ban on the film.
4. Kangana Ranaut’s Remarks On The Farmers’ Protests
Kangana Ranaut’s inflammatory comments about the farmers’ protest generated a stir. She indicated that a Bangladesh-like situation may have developed during the farmers’ protest if India’s strong leadership had not intervened. She claimed that bodies were hanging and rapes were taking place during the agitation, implying that foreign entities like China and the United States were participating in the campaign. The BJP condemned her for her insulting statements and made it plain that she is not permitted or authorised to comment on the party’s policy topics. Her words have played a significant role in the controversy surrounding her film and attempts to ban it.
The actor has been vocal about the problems in the release of her film. In Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, she said that an emergency has been imposed on her film and that she is disappointed by the country and the circumstances. She argued that she is being singled out since the events depicted in her film have already been documented in films such as Madhur Bhandarkar’s 2017 political thriller Indu Sarkar (the imposition of the 1975 Emergency) and Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur (1971 India-Pakistan War) from last year. She explained that, while she had already had her film recognized by the CBFC, it was removed after a review due to many requests.
