A new K-drama has arrived, and fans are already hooked. The first two episodes of Dive Into You, starring Kim Ji-yeon (Bona) and Park Seo-ham, are now streaming on Viki, and viewers cannot stop talking about it. But there is one thing that caught attention even before the premiere: the drama’s story sounded a lot like Lovely Runner. From travelling back to high school to saving a first love, the similarities are hard to ignore. But are they really that similar? Here’s what you need to know.
Dive Into You Looks Similar To Lovely Runner
At first glance, the similarities are hard to miss. In Dive Into You, top actress Yoon Ha-na gets the chance to return to her school days, and it is triggered by an old camcorder.
Just like Im Sol in Lovely Runner, Ha-na has one major goal. She wants to change the fate of the person she loves. Her mission involves Jung Woo-jae, played by Park Seo-ham, whose tragic future she desperately wants to prevent.
As the story shifts between the present and the past, Ha-na is forced to relive her school days while dealing with first love and the pressure of changing the future.
But There Is A Major Difference
Unlike Lovely Runner, Dive Into You do not focus on just one person travelling through time. Ha-na’s twin brother, Ha-ru, also gets pulled into the past with her.
The twins also end up switching bodies with each other. This creates a completely different situation. Ha-na finds herself living in her brother’s athletic male body while trying to get closer to Woo-jae. Meanwhile, Ha-ru has to deal with Ha-na’s life, including her career and her talent agency CEO.
The old camcorder is another major difference. Instead of a watch, it becomes the key to the time-slip story.
The body-swap situation also brings more comedy, awkward moments and misunderstandings, which gives Dive Into You a lighter tone despite its emotional storyline.
So, while the two dramas share a familiar time-travel setup, Dive Into You has its own twist.
