K-pop idols often face intense body scrutiny. People constantly talk about their weight, whether they are thin or not. Recently, a K-pop idol’s body sparked new discussions online. TWICE released an album teaser, and it started with a close-up on Jeongyeon. Fans were thrilled to see her in the centre, and they were all praises about her look. However, one comment caught everyone’s attention. The comment said, “Jeongyeon is back to being skinny.” This upset many fans, as they felt focusing on Jeongyeon’s body was wrong. This once again gave rise to unfair beauty standards and body-shaming against female idols like Jeongyeon online.

Many fans felt it was too much. They said it was not right to talk about her weight in such a way. One user wrote, “Fat shaming someone who gained weight because of medications to treat an injury is heartless whether you like the group or not. This is just a weird level of obsession. Go touch grass and reconnect with nature, you moron.” Another user wrote, “why does jeongyeon’s body have anything to do with it she was pretty before just as much as she is now.”

Notably, Jeongyeon has faced this before. Her body has been a topic of discussion many times, which is also concerning. This focus on Jeongyeon’s body isn’t just about her. It brings light on a bigger issue within the K-pop world: the constant, often unhealthy, scrutiny of idols’ appearances.
