Internet Thinks Cocktail 2’s Mashooqa Song Composed By Pritam Is Copied From A 1993 Italian Song. Here’s The Proof!

The upcoming romance comedy Cocktail 2 has some very high expectations from people who thoroughly enjoyed the first part. And amid the promotions, Maddock Films has released a love song featuring two of the main leads, including Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, called ‘Mashooqa.’ While many initially enjoyed the visuals and tunes, many discovered that the makers might have copied the tunes of a 1993 Italian song named ‘Se So Arrubate A Nonna.’

Is Cocktail 2′ Song ‘Mashooqa’ Copied?

A Reddit user shared some glimpses from Cocktail 2‘s song ‘Mashooqa’ with the 1993 Italian song. They pointed out the obvious similarities between the two tunes, with many others joining in the debate and claiming that the two sounded very similar, and called it a “dull song.” Many criticised Bollywood for frequently copying tunes from Western songs and joked about how Pritam couldn’t stop “copying.”However, many also came to Pritam’s defence and argued that it might have been “inspired” through sampling rather than directly being copied.

One user explained that it was called “sampling” and not stealing when one uses the main beat of the song and puts other instruments over it with different lyrics. They further gave examples of famous stars like Pitbull and Taylor Swift who also practice the same. For the unversed, the original song named ‘So So Arrubate A Nonna’ is a Neapolitan song by the famous Italian duo Bibi & Coco, which was released in 1993 and was a part of their album called Le Origini Vol. 2. The title translates to ‘The Kidnapped Grandma’ in Neapolitan dialect, and though it did not become a global hit, it had a cult following over the years.

Cocktail 2 has been directed by Homi Adajania and stars Rashmika Mandanna, Kriti Sanon, and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.
