The awards shared the pictures of food plates on social media and wrote, “Not Best Picture food, but definitely a memorable night. If the jokes are landing, we’ll call it a win,” and the reaction to this was hilarious. The snack plate featured a modest lineup of grapes, crackers, cheese wedges, and just a spoonful of hummus. It also had one lonely spanakopita and a scattering of dried apricots.

This image became one of the most talked-about things from the event. A X (Formerly Twitter) user started trolling the plate with comparisons pouring in about the spread to the economy-class airline meals. For an event that celebrates Hollywood’s elite, fans couldn’t fathom the fact that they served just some grapes. Many pointed out how the economy was hitting such a big event host as well. The food controversy also made way into the Critics’ Choice stage itself, with Abbott Elementary star Janelle James calling it out mid-speech while accepting the Best Supporting Actress in a comedy series.

She laughed, joking that after four nominations, she had finally accepted the truth: no one is having a proper supper. She hinted that grapes and ice cream had become an awards season tradition, complete with prizes.
