Thalapathy Vijay has been making headlines ever since his wife Sangeeta Sornalingam filed for a divorce in a Chennai court. She allegedly cited cheating and an affair with an actress in her divorce petition. The duo further fueled speculations that they arrived together at a wedding, which shocked everyone. And amid this, director Mohan G Kshatriyan was slammed for applauding Vijay’s ‘guts’ for it, and was later forced to clarify.

After pictures and clips of Vijay and Trisha attending the wedding reception of Kalpathi Suresh’s son went viral, director Mohan reacted to the news. Taking to his X (Previously Twitter) account, he wrote, “Actor Vijay Sir answers everyone in his style and shuts down all rumours.. He has guts.” Minutes after this, he was slammed by the internet with fans saying, “I had a lot of respect and hope for you as a director. I believed you stood for something positive, for our culture and dharma. But this piece tells the reality. It demonstrates how the film business will do anything for fame and money. The morals depicted in films rarely resemble reality.”

After this, on Friday, March 6, Mohan clarified and explained that he wasn’t supporting ‘illegal affairs.’ He said that a narrative was set against himVijay using a section of the media, but he broke that narrative in his own way, which he appreciated for its guts. The director added that if people still did not understand his point, there was little he could do, as they would continue to fall for narratives as usual.

When an X user questioned whether Vijay was setting a good example for the younger generation, the director responded that many capable leaders in Tamil Nadu were still struggling to make space in politics, yet they were not being followed. He added that even in films, audiences continued to favour stories centred on drugs and violence, saying that this reflected the reality of Tamil Nadu politics.
