India At Oscars 2024: RRR’s Naatu Naatu, Sabyasachi Purse, And More Special Moments At The 96th Academy Awards

The prestigious Oscars 2024 took place on March 11. Many deserving winners like Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone and Christopher Nolan among others won the 96th Academy Awards. However, this year’s Oscars became all the more special for the Indians.  Last year’s winner, RRR song Naatu Naatu was again played at the Oscars this year, an Indian documentary’s nomination and more such Indian moments that took place at the Academy Awards.

India created history when Ram Charan and Jr NTR starrer song Naatu Naatu from  SS Rajamouli’s RRR won in the Best Song category at the Oscars, last year. The song was again cherished at the 96th Academy Awards during a very special moment. Just before presenting the awards for Best Original Song, some visuals from ‘Naatu Naatu’ were played on the Oscars stage before Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo presented the awards to this year’s winner. The climax scene of RRR was also played during the Oscars this year to recognise the class-apart work by the stunt coordinators.

Sabyasachi Moment!

Another historic moment happened in the fashion world. Indian- born Canadian, filmmaker Nisha Pahuja whose documentary To Kill a Tiger was nominated in the Best Documentary category chose to carry the stunning Sabyasachi white purse to go with her bright red gown. Quite a moment!

Indian Art Director Nitin Chandrakant Desai was honoured during the In Memorium segment at The 96th Academy Awards for his outstanding work in films like Jodha Akbar, Lagaan and Devdas among others.
