The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has reignited its long-standing demand for a complete digital and media blackout of Pakistani artists in India. In a public statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the group has called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impose a nationwide ban on all Pakistani actors, influencers, and entertainment-related media from appearing on Indian digital platforms.
What Did The Film Body Say About Pakistani Actors?
This comes after un response to the recent reappearance of Pakistani actors like Mawra Hocane and Yumna Zaidi, whose Instagram and social media accounts have reportedly resurfaced in India. AICWA has termed this renewed visibility as more than just a concern over content; it described the phenomenon as “an emotional assault” on the families of those who have lost loved ones to terrorism.
In their appeal, AICWA emphasised that these public appearances from Pakistani artists are a direct affront to the memory of Indian soldiers martyred in terror attacks over the years. Referring to tragic events like the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the Pulwama bombing, and the Uri and Pahalgam incidents, the association stated that allowing Pakistani talent digital space in India amounts to ignoring the pain of the victims and their families.
“This isn’t just a digital comeback. It’s a slap in the face to the sacrifice made by our brave soldiers,” AICWA said in its statement. The association has previously campaigned for similar bans, especially following terror-related incidents, and maintains that there should be no cultural or entertainment-based engagement with a nation it holds accountable for ongoing cross-border terrorism.
While the Indian government has not yet issued an official response to this latest appeal.
