I-dle’s Soyeon Faces Extreme Criticism For Controversial Performance
i-dle's Soyeon faces backlash over her performance in the group’s latest comeback Good Thing, as fans debate group dynamics.

Instead of being a bold new chapter that signifies the group’s exciting new chapter, i-dle’s latest comeback is facing a great deal of criticism. This controversy is mainly directed at the leader and main producer of the group, Soyeon. i-dle recently rebranded and changed their name by dropping the letter ‘G’ from their name. People were looking forward to their new song ‘Good Thing’. However, the performance of the song by the members has sparked a lot of debate online.
In late 2024, all five members, Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua renewed their contracts with Cube Entertainment after 7 years together. Fans were extremely happy to know that the famous girl group was still very far from being done. This message was intended to be echoed by their recent comeback, too.

What Is Soyeon’s Controversy About?
In early May, their new song ‘Good Thing’ was released as part of the special mini-album We Are I-dle. Later the same month, they released their eighth mini-album. Written and produced by Soyeon, the song is a self-assured, bass-heavy hymn made to highlight i-dle’s signature colour and personality.
However, opinions on ‘Good Thing’ have been divided.
During performances, the group feels out of rhythm, according to several internet users. Some claim that despite Soyeon’s energetic and intense performance, the other members appear less involved, which leads to suspicions that she wrote the song to emphasise herself rather than the group.
the hate all the girls are getting atm…
soyeon for being the only one “enjoying the comeback” because she “prioritises herself concept wise”
and the rest of the girls for “not liking the cb” and being “lazy”

People’s Reaction To Soyeon And Fans’ Response
Critiques have been harsh, with some even saying that Soyeon should go solo or labeling her as the group’s downfall. Neverlands, or i-dle’s fans, have debunked such comments, claiming that Soyeon has always been the group’s creative core, and she has been seen multiple times working together with the other group members. Others argue that the criticism was timed to create needless discussions and spread hate.
The group’s on-stage chemistry is seen and recognised by many fans. Neverlands has also posted videos of the members laughing, connecting, and encouraging one another behind the scenes.
one person said that shuhua seemed uninterested in performing good thing & now everyone on tiktok is saying that soyeon doesn’t think or consider the other members lmfaoooooooo yall are not serious

As part of their 7th anniversary celebrations, i-dle announced that they will be changing their name from (G)I-DLE to just i-dle. According to the group’s company, this move was made as the girls wanted to adopt a more mature image and move beyond gendered boundaries.
