Read on to now more about the situation.
Lee Jinuk’s Controversial Past Resurfaces
On 5th December, Netflix took to social media platforms to announce the official cast for their upcoming film Tygo. They stated that the film featuring BLACKPINK Lisa, Lee Jinuk and Don Lee is now in production. While fans were happy to know about this update, many criticised Netflix’s decision to involve Lee Jinuk in the film.
IN 2016, Korean actor Lee Jinuk was accused of s*xual assault by a woman. In response to the allegations, Jinuk countersued the woman, claiming that she was lying. The actor was, however, cleared of charges after the accuser took back her complaint; however, she later claimed that she was coerced into doing so.
The woman was then declared not guilty, and Lee Jinuk filed a plea against her. The woman was later sentenced to eight months in prison for making false allegations. Even though the woman was sentenced to jail, netizens still believe that Lee Jinuk was in the wrong and stood by the victim.
This is the reason why netizens are now disappointed with Jinuk’s casting. They questioned how someone with a past so controversial can still be getting such high-profile projects. People also pointed out the double standards that exist in the industry for female and male actors. Female actresses have been cancelled from the entertainment industry for far less while male actors thrive despite huge controversies.
