Here’s The Real Reason Behind (G)-IDLE’s Name Change Announcement!

(G)I-DLE shocked everyone as they celebrated the seventh anniversary of their debut with a name change. On May 2, the group announced changed their name to ‘i-dle.’ This announcement was made through their social media channel on the same day, and their agency described it as a ‘new beginning.’ While many celebrate this new name, many are confused as to why it happened. The dropping of the ‘G’ from their name was because their identity as a group couldn’t be described as just girls or any other gender.

Truth About (G)I – DLE’ Name Change

The group changed their name to i-dle to reestablish their group’s identity that can’t be defined through girls or any other gender. At the same time, they have removed parentheses, a symbol used to identify or accentuate one portion from another, and are intended to display more expansive music and ideas. One fan commented, “i-dle shedding labels and limits — bold move! New era, new name, same power,” while another said, “Dumb. Keep the name that made you famous.” This announcement gave a lot of mixed reactions from the fans.
