What Hema Malini Said
Hema Malini looked back at her early days and recalled preferring bungalows over flats in Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s book, Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl. The actress had gotten a call from her father on set asking her to visit Walkeshwar, situated in South Mumbao. During her break, Hema found out that he had bought her a sea-facing flat and asked if she liked it. She told him that she didn’t fancy staying in South Bombay and wanted a house with lots of trees just like Chennai.
Malini recalled living in a small Bandra flat during the shooting of her Hindi debut filn Sapno Ka Saudagar with Raj Kapoor. The space was previously used by costume designer Bhanu Athaiya for dress trials. Soon, she moved into a bungalow, but the only thing was that it was haunted. She recalled, “Every night, I felt someone was trying to choke me; I had difficulty breathing. I slept with my mother, and she noticed how restless I was. If it had happened only once or twice, we would have ignored it, but it occurred every night.”
