At the trailer launch of her upcoming film The Buckingham Murders, filmmaker Ektaa Kapoor addressed the pressing issue of women’s safety in the workplace, emphasizing the need for a significant shift in power dynamics from men to women. Her comments came in light of the recent revelations from the Hema Committee report, which exposed serious issues of exploitation and harassment in the Malayalam film industry.

Ekta Kapoor Reacts To Hema Committee Report

Ektaa Kapoor, a prominent figure in the Indian entertainment industry, pointed out that the concerns highlighted by the Hema Committee are not unique to the film industry but are prevalent across all professional environments. She stressed the importance of women taking on leadership roles to foster safer and more equitable workplaces. Kapoor believes that by having more women in positions of power, the environment for women in various industries can improve significantly. She further illustrated her point by referencing her own work on The Buckingham Murders, where two female producers collaborated to create a crime story centred around a female officer. Kapoor sees this as a step towards empowering women and creating a safer environment through storytelling that challenges traditional gender roles.

Director Hansal Mehta, who was also present at the event, echoed Kapoor’s sentiments, emphasizing that it is time for men to take responsibility for ensuring equality and safety for women.
