Fashion designer Manish Malhotra has boldly stepped in a new direction in his career, making his debut as a producer, and his first project Gustaakh Ishq has just dropped its first teaser. Launched on August 25, the teaser promises to be an explosive period romance backed by nostalgia, poetry, and timeless music.

The movie, based in the cramped streets of Purani Dilli and the magnificent but decaying kothis of Punjab, traces an ardent romance between Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh’s characters. Their chemistry is central to the teaser, where they seem lost in one another against sepia-hued backgrounds. Adding to the mystery is veteran Naseeruddin Shah, whose short but impactful cameo suggests a secret, potentially villainous role. Actor Sharib Hashmi is also included in the cast, though his role has yet to be disclosed.
Written and directed by Vibhu Puri, Gustaakh Ishq features some of Indian cinema’s largest creative talents.
Its music is by Vishal Bhardwaj with lyrics by Gulzar, promising an atmosphere rich in Sufi mood and poetic romance. The technical crew comprises Academy Award-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty and cinematographer Manush Nandan, among others, to ensure a cinematic richness.
For Manish Malhotra, the film is the beginning of something new. Looking back on his transition into production, he explained that his interest in cinema started as a child, when film-making influenced his imagination and profession. Having spent years defining fashion in movies, he now finds production to be an opportunity to return to the medium that gave him so much.

Supported by Stage5 Production, founded by Malhotra and his brother Dinesh Malhotra, Gustaakh Ishq guarantees to infuse old-school storytelling with new-age sensibilities, a love story soaked in yearning, music, and mystery.
