Guess What? Ajay Devgn Got Paid 8 Times More Than Tabu For Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha. This Is Outrageous!
Ajay Devgn was paid 8 times more than Tabu for Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha!

In Neeraj Pandey’s latest film, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, a romantic drama spanning over two decades, the pay disparity between its lead actors, Ajay Devgn and Tabu, has stirred up the long-standing debate regarding wage inequality in Bollywood. Despite the movie’s lacklustre performance at the box office, the remuneration differences have captured public attention, revealing a deeper, systemic issue within the industry.
Ajay Devgn Getting Paid 8 Times More Than Tabu
Ajay Devgn, playing the lead role of Krishna, received a staggering ₹25 crore, which accounts for 83% of the total cast remuneration budget of ₹30 crore. In stark contrast, Tabu, who portrayed Krishna’s love interest Vasudha and has been in the industry longer than Devgn, was paid merely ₹3 crore. This alarming discrepancy not only raises questions about pay parity but also reflects the undervaluation of female actors in Bollywood, even those with substantial careers and contributions.

Tabu, who debuted in the film industry in 1982, nine years before Ajay Devgn, has expressed her frustration regarding the ongoing gender pay gap. In a candid interview with We Are Yuvaa, she questioned why the onus of discussing pay disparity falls on female actors rather than those who orchestrate or benefit from the inequality, such as the paymasters or male co-stars who receive higher wages. Her poignant remarks underscore the need for a shift in perspective and approach to this issue within the media and industry conversations.
The film itself, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, encapsulates a complex narrative of love, loss, and redemption, set to an Oscar-winning score by MM Kreem, and featuring other notable actors like Shantanu Maheshwari, Saiee Manjrekar, and Jimmy Shergill. However, the real-life drama unfolding off-screen concerning the film’s pay structure might overshadow its cinematic achievements.

This instance of pay disparity in Bollywood is not isolated. It reflects a broader, global issue in the entertainment industry, where female actors are often paid significantly less than their male counterparts, regardless of the roles’ demands or the actors’ expertise. During an interview with Hauterrfly, Sanaya Irani also spoke about the pay disparity in TV, where she highlighted the fact that even though women in TV spend more time on sets due to their makeup, costume change, and also because the show revolves around the female lead they still get paid way less than their male counterparts.
