Exclusive: Geeta Basra Slams London’s Gedi Culture, “It’s Not Cool, It’s Harassment”
In a recent conversation with The Male Feminist, Geeta Basra criticises London's problematic Gedi Culture.

In today’s society, it seems like respectful flirting has almost gone extinct. In the past, when someone was interested in another person, they would try to win their hearts by romantic gestures and surprises; however, these days, the perception of courtship has completely changed. The lines between flirting and harassment are increasingly blurred, especially among men. Problematic practices such as eve-teasing and “Gedi culture” are increasingly becoming popular, making women feel like targets for harassment. In a recent conversation with The Male Feminist, hosted by Siddhartha Aalambayan, British actress and wife of cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Geeta Basra shared her experiences dealing with “gedi culture” and its impact on women.
What Is Gedi Culture?
Gedi culture has essentially become a means for men to stalk and harass women under the guise of flirting aggressively. Men driving cars often slow down when they see a woman walking on the street, roll down their windows, and make obscene or inappropriate comments. This culture is gaining popularity throughout India, particularly in cities like Delhi and Chandigarh, where fast and luxurious cars are seen as status symbols.
However, it is also becoming a problem abroad. In an interview, Geeta Basra shared her experience with Gedi culture, noting that it is quite prominent in London’s Southall district. She described the phenomenon as “men blasting music, driving around, and checking out the girls.” Basra expressed confusion over why this behaviour is considered cool. She believes that people should have the confidence to approach women and engage in conversation, rather than sitting in a convertible car and playing loud music. “It’s not cool, it’s harassment”, Basra stated, further criticising the culture by urging men not to make girls feel unsafe and not to treat them like targets.
