Many might agree when I say some Bollywood characters become our entire personality! And that’s why Reddit has revealed its ultimate list of Bollywood’s Top 10 Most Iconic Female Characters! This curated countdown takes you on a journey through the most memorable roles that have defined and redefined female strength and charm in Indian cinema. From the effervescent Geet in Jab We Met, whose zest for life won hearts everywhere, to the deeply relatable Piku Banerjee in Piku, each character on this list has left an indelible mark on audiences. Let’s have a look!
1. Geet Dhillon (Jab We Met)
One of the most iconic, and the most famous ones at any fancy dress competition is Kareena Kapoor’s character Geet Dhillon from Jab We Met. Reddit says, “Geet is a girl full of life and bubbliness, she is a child at heart and lives in her dream world…The way she lives makes the entire generation to be positive and happy… She not only changed the outlook of Aditya’s life but taught so many girls how to overcome breakups and be happy in their little world… She taught girls how to be your favourite.” And we agree!
2. Rani Mehra (Queen)
We loved Rani’s journey of how she from being dependent on the guy becomes dependent on herself and carefree and lives freely it’s the best journey of self-discovery. How Rani gets over the guy in the first half and she gets over herself in the second half… Loved how she didn’t accept the guy who rejected her, instead rejected him, which shows in the end how self-confident she has become! Kangana Ranaut’s best performance to date!
3. Piku Banerjee (Piku)
Deepika Padukone as Piku played a strong character who cares for her father and takes care of him. It’s okay to admit that we all saw ourselves a little in Piku and that’s the best part of any character.
4. Poo (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham)
Poo was a self-obsessed, mean girl. But it was Kareena Kapoor’s charm which made this character the iconic as iconic as she was. We all have a poo in ourselves who loves ourselves and are self-obsessed. We hope we get a Poo 2.0 soon enough!
5. Naina Talwar (Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani)
Another fancy dress favourite was Deepika Padukone’s character scholar Naina from YJHD. Naina was shy but she embraced herself. She knew her strengths and played them well. We all wanted to be Naina after the film was released and that is the whole reason that this character was so iconic!
6. Shashi Godbole (English Vinglish)
While we miss the legendary actor, Sridevi, her iconic role as Shahi Godbole will forever stay with us. Sridevi played the role perfectly of a housewife who couldn’t speak English and had to be bullied for it by her whole family. It was relatable how a mother does everything for her child and a wife does everything for her husband and still has to get insulted by family made us sad… Loved how Shashi got to learn English, make friends and do everything which her family thought she could do. She teaches us everything is possible to learn and be self-confident.
7. Nisha Choudhary (Hum Apke Hain Kaun)
Madhuri Dixit made this character iconic. Nisha was strong, carefree and full of life. Her grace, expressions, and dance won the hearts of everyone. Her iconic purple lehenga made everything extra special!
8. Bulbul (Bulbul)
Tripti Dimri owned this character totally. What she faced in this marriage, the torture and how she became bold, fiery and strong Bulbbul. The transformation was heart-wrenchingly beautiful and Bulbbul became the goddess who brings justice.
9. Veera Tripathi ( Highway)
Even after her many iconic roles, Alia Bhatt is most remembered for her strong role as Veera Tripathi in the film Highway. She was smart and innocent and had to face abuse which is sadly so common in our society. But how she faced her journey and overcame everything was what made her so iconic.
10. Dimple Dixit (Mere Brother Ki Dulhan)
Katrina Kaif was as crazy and Wacky as Dimple. We all loved the character as she was carefree, crazy, wacky and full of life. Her ability to do whatever things that came to her mind made us feel liberated. And her amazing song ‘Dhunki’ was what made her so special.
