Gangster Ganga Review: Supriya Pathak’s Grandmom Act Only Saving Grace Of This Average Short Film
It is nostalgic too!

As children, we understood the importance of grandparents. We got to learn so many values and morals of life from them, and I think most of us cherish those good old times today. As adults, we hardly get time to even sit with them. We are so busy running towards our goals that we no longer listen and learn from their experiences anymore! Gangster Ganga is a short film that reminds us about the importance and value of our grandparents, and their words of wisdom. Starring Supriya Pathak and Veer Rajwant Singh, the running time of Gangster Ganga is approximately 27 minutes and it is currently streaming on JioCinema. In this duration, the short film tells us a relatable story about the bond between a grandmother and her grandchild. From performances to the plot, here is a quick review of what works in this short film and what doesn’t!
Plot And Characters
Gangster Ganga has a story that beautifully balances happy and hard-hitting moments within the running time. The plot revolves around a grandmother (Supriya Pathak) and her grandchild (Veer Rajwant Singh) and some events that lead them to cherish the long-lost bond again! Supriya Pathak as a grandmother is chill, fun and tries to keep up with the social media trends but her character has depth too! She has an Instagram ID too with the username ‘Gangster Ganga’. Veer Rajwant Singh’s character is very relatable for every corporate employee of our generation. His life revolves around work. However, there are very natural moments created in this film that gradually help them to cherish the grandmother and grandson bond again. The dialogues in this short film are simple yet they reflect the vast differences between the generations of the two characters. The story sheds light on serious topics like domestic violence, cheating, and the frustration among today’s generation. However, the ultimate motive of Gangster Ganga is only to remind youngsters that no matter how much we see the world, our grandparents come with a certain set of wisdom that applies even today. It is a different thing that the youth only realise it kaafi late!

Strengths
The performances by Supriya Pathak and Veer Rajwant Singh are just right for what the story demands. Supriya Pathak in the role of a grandmother perfectly showcases the humourous, mature and emotional aspects of her character. Veer Rajwant Singh is relatable in his character. The dialogue writing is smart and the pace at which it moves is just right for this short film. The fact that this grandparent and grandson bond has a modern touch to it in terms of conversations, and characters is quite heartwarming to watch!

Weaknesses
Gangster Ganga does not bring anything new to the table and this becomes the biggest problem of this short film. It does highlight the importance of grandparents and their experiences but the impact is lost. It is predictable and you know that one of them will realise their mistake in the end.

Verdict
Gangster Ganga is an average watch. There are flaws but the nostalgia that comes with it becomes the sole reason for watching it once. It will also bring the urge to spend time with grandparents and talk to them about their youth while sharing yours too! Also, Supriya Pathak’s nuanced performance keeps the short film alive!
