From Sophie-Benedict’s Dull Love Story To Viscountess Owning Every Scene, 5 Thoughts On Bridgerton S4 Part 1!

Since the very first season, Bridgerton has managed to capture our attention with the beautiful storylines, characters, and performances. It reminded us of yearning, a concept lost in today’s day and age. The love stories of the Bridgerton kids have only left us craving for more, and in the fourth installment, the story revolves around Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) love life with Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). The first part of the series released on January 29, and as much as I waned to like this one, I just could not! Here are the few reasons.

1. Sophie Baek And Benedict Bridgerton’s Love Story!

I was constantly comparing this season’s love story to the previous ones, and there was hardly any yearning to be felt. Firstly, because the he Cinderella story doesn’t seem to be working for me. While Yerin Ha and Luke Thompson’s performances are delightful, the on-screen spark between them lacks big time, and I just hope that it gets better in the second part. I was hoping for Benedict to get a hint about Sophie’s identity by the end of fourth episode, but weirdly that does not happen. Benedict’s proposal scene was another disappointment, and probably the worst in the history of this show.

2. Dull Penelope AKA Lady Whistledown

Who would’ve thought about this happening? Penelope AKA Lady Whistledown (Nicola Coughlan) was very dull throughout. Neither was there any interesting tea coming from Whistledown nor did the character particularly get any engaging arc. While I was always concerned about the development of Penelope’s story after her identity was revealed in the last season, and now it’s safe to say that those concerns have become reality.

3. Justice For Eloise

Eloise has always been the smartest of all the Bridgerton kids. Her sass, sarcasm, and rebel nature has been my favourite throughout the seasons, and something that has stayed consistent too. But this season, Eloise is quite boring and her “I am not interested in marriage” does not move an inch in the four episodes.

4. Mother Is On Fire!

Now, it’s Viscountess Violet Bridgerton’s story that has taken an interesting turn in the show. Ruth Gummell as the mother is owning every scene. Her insecurities turned into confidence has gives us some memorable moments this season!

5. Maid Fight Sub-Plot!

Umm, this sub-plot was undercooked and feels so forced in the storyline! A scene where Portia Featherington gives her maid some of her old clothes instead of the pay hike was hard-hitting!

Bridgerton season 4 part 1 is a season which we can watch by fast forwarding some scenes and still not miss out on much. The show is hardly making me feel emotions, or look forward to the story’s development but I am hoping the second part gets better.
