Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Pathaan is one of the highest-grossing films of Bollywood this year. The film tastes immense success not just in India but globally as well. With Pathaan, YRF unveiled the logo of the YRF Spy Universe with this film as well. From the action scenes to seeing SRK on the big screen after many years, Pathaan was indeed loved by the audiences. But a former R&AW agent has shared his thoughts on such spy films made in Bollywood and he does not approve of them, to say the least.

Former R&AW chief Vikram Sood appeared on YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s show and shared his thoughts on spy films made in Bollywood. He said that we have not gotten the art of making spy films. Varun Sood said that such films need to be realistic. Hinting at Pathaan, he further said Bollywood needs to take a break from showing things like an ISI girl (Deepika in Pathaan) and an R&AW agent (Shah Rukh Khan) living “happily ever after.”

Varun Sood also went on to add that films like Pathaan are not accurate depictions. Elaborating on the spy film he saw, EK Tha Tiger, Varun Sood said that he watched this film because it did not depict anything and he laughed while watching it. He also called Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan an ‘exaggerated’ film, and went on to say that entertainment should be fun and realistic.

Well, he does have a point as he has been in the field and seen how actually intense it can be. Bollywood spy films or most films in general tend to deviate from the main plot. There will be a song thrown in a crime thriller or a murder mystery which is totally not needed. But well, Bollywood’s main motto has always been “Entertainment, entertainment aur sirf entertainment!” If you still haven’t watched Pathaan, catch it on Prime Video.
