Footballer Hwang Ui Jo Under Trial For Illegally Filming Two Women

Due to a legal technicality involving video calls, Hwang Ui Jo was found guilty in one case at his initial trial and not guilty in the other. Both the defence and the prosecution have now challenged the one-year suspended prison sentence handed to him. Hwang’s legal team pleaded for leniency during the recent hearing, emphasising that a prison term would end his football career, affect his place on the national team, and jeopardise his eligibility for the World Cup. Hwang Ui Jo’s legal team argued that he was instead a victim himself. The team said that the footballer’s privacy was violated as he was not the one who leaked the videos of the two women.

Prosecutors, on the other hand, firmly disputed the claims that Hwang Ui Jo was a victim. They further requested an extended 4-year sentence for him. The prosecution argued that Hwang only showed guilt and remorse because he was caught. The fact that Hwang initially denied the claims that were made against him also contributed to the suffering of his victims. The footballer’s actions, according to the prosecution, demonstrate a lack of accountability.

Hwang Ui Jo’s case is one of the most high-profile cases in the industry right now, and netizens are curious to know the verdict of the trial, which is to be released on 4 September.
