From I Hate Luv Storys To Ok Jaanu, 8 Flop Bollywood Movies That Gave Us Unforgettable Music!
These films may have failed to do well at the box office but they gave us evergreen music.

I woke up today humming to the tunes of ‘Dariya’ from the movie Baar Baar Dekho, so I started listening to it which led me to wonder if the stereotype “Flop movies have the best songs” is actually true. Bollywood films do give a lot of importance to their music, to the point that if the songs from the film are hit on the 30-second reel on everyone’s Instagram feeds, people will talk about it.
The pressure of having good songs in movies in order for them to work has always been there. The music in Bollywood films conveys a lot more emotions than the actors and characters. And that’s also why the films stay alive and relevant even if they tank at the box office.
So, when I put my playlist on shuffle, I come across a lot of songs from films that didn’t necessarily perform well in theatres but their music continues to live on in our playlists.
1. Fitoor
While the movie did not spark conversations among people, Tabu’s magnificent acting and the song ‘Pashmina’ certainly struck our minds. Amit Trivedi’s magical voice did justice to the song and the title song by Arijit Singh is a regular on my playlist.
2. Ok Jaanu
I truly believe that this mainstream movie all about “situationship” would definitely have worked if it had been marketed for all the people who relate to films and characters when it comes to their feelings and romance. But the title track of the film and the song ‘Humma Humma’ were complete bangers and depicted the film perfectly. The album also culminated in a mix of peaceful songs like ‘Enna Sona’ and ‘Sunn Bharavara’.
3. Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
While I did not have the patience to sit through this film, ‘Bol Na Halke Halke’ tops my playlist. The movie gave us some of the best songs of that era like Jhoom Bara Bar Jhoom and Ticket To Hollywood.
4. Tashan
This movie was all over the internet for 2 reasons only: Kareena’s weight loss and the song ‘Chhaliya.’ The playlist of the movie includes some absolute gems like ‘Falak Tak’ in Udit Narayan’s angelic voice and ‘Dil Haara.’
5. Anjaana Anjaani
This movie flopping was a surprise but ‘Tujhe Bhula Dia’ became every heartbroken person’s go-to song. Songs like ‘Hairat,’ ‘Anjaana Anjaani,’ and ‘Tumse Hi Tumse’ are some of the best feel-good songs.
6. Ra-One
People praising Raavan‘s cinematography and innovative storyline, after the release of Brahmastra, was when everything in the world became right. Watching Raavan as a kid scared me but also entertained me at the same time. But there was nothing more fun than grooving to ‘Chammak Challo’ and crying to ‘Dildaara (Stand By Me).’ And these songs seem to be making their way back into people’s playlists via reels.
7. Laal Singh Chaddha
While Laal Singh Chaddha was not the best remake of Forrest Gump, Kareena’s magical performance and ‘Tere Hawale’ were the best things that came out of this Aamir Khan starter.
8. I Hate Luv Storys
Long after the lover boy era of Imran Khan ended, people realised the gem of an actor he is. But one of my most favorite movie of his has to be I Hate Luv Storys with the title track being the song that plays at every club by the end of the night. And let’s not forget how songs like ‘Bahaara’ and ‘Bin Tere’ manage to instantly transport us to a magical Bollywood world.
Well, after listing all these movies maybe I do believe in the bad movie, good songs theory!
