It was a huge moment for Kiran Rao and her team when Laapataa Ladies was chosen as India’s official entry to Oscars 2025. From the list of some great Indian films, the Film Federation Of India chose the feminist film for the Academy Awards nominations. However, the FFI is under severe criticism for a very questionable definition of Indian women. The internet users are furious. Read on to know more.
Why Film Federation Of India Is Being Criticised?
In an official announcement note by the Film Federation of India, the FFI defined Indian women as a ‘strange mixture of dominant and submissive’. A Reddit user shared the citation and called it a mockery in itself. People called the statement by FFI ‘atrocious’ and a complete disaster.
The Reddit users bashed the FFI for the poorly written citation and suggested that a Chatgpt would have done better work. The social media users were shocked at how FFI members defined Indian women while simultaneously choosing a feminist film like Laapataa Ladies for Oscars 2025. Users also wrote that the selection committee failed to understand the movie’s message and the citation is a clear example of that.
