BTS Jin on Weight And K-Pop Idol Body Standards

During the livestream, BTS Jin shared a funny yet meaningful interaction that he had with other BTS members. The eldest recalled how, when they all met up, the members commented on how scrawny and all skin and bones Jin looked. BTS Jin was shocked at these comments because he believed that he had actually gained a bit of weight.

What made the situation funny was how Jin said that the other members had been actively working out and bulking up while Jin was in the military. Jin jokingly pointed out that they had forgotten what it means to be an idol. He playfully referenced the stereotypical skinny appearance that K-pop idols have to adhere to.

Jin then clarified that he prefers a lean, thinner figure than a more muscular, healthy build. The BTS member then went on to clarify that these opinions are just his own and he respects everyone who might not agree with him.

Fans took to social media to debate BTS Jin’s remarks. Many talked about how his long-standing support for healthy eating has helped them improve their relationship with food as well. Even as a rookie idol in the industry, Jin often spoke against the industry’s harmful dieting culture. He even started a now-famous series titled ā€˜Eat Jin’ which encouraged his fans to eat guilt-free.
