Aespa’s Karina Faces Backlash For Allegedly Supporting Conservative Presidential Candidate

Korean netizens, especially supporters of rival political parties, criticised Karina’s outfit. They said that it looked like a campaign move. Following the backlash. Karina deleted the post, but the drama didn’t stop. The situation escalated when Baek Ji Won, a spokesperson for the People’s Power Party, shared a photo of Aespa on her Instagram story.

In response to criticism, SM Entertainment, Karina’s agency, apologised for the confusion caused by the post. The agency stated that Karina had no political intentions and that she removed the photos after realising they could be misunderstood. SM Entertainment promised to be more careful in the future to avoid similar issues. After the agency’s statement, Karina also issued a statement.

She took to Bubble and apologised to her fans, known as MY, for causing worry. Karina stated that the post was not meant to spark controversy and expressed regret for the misunderstanding. Further, she promised to be more mindful of her actions moving forward.

Fans, however, rallied to her side. Many called the backlash overblown and stated that netizens were reading too much into a simple outfit choice and that the backlash was unnecessary. They took to X and defended the K-pop idol’s innocence and praised her quick response.
