What Does Aura Farming Mean?
Aura farming means an act of deliberately doing or saying something that is perceived as cool and confident. It refers to when one tries to increase their “aura” in the eyes of others.
For example, a celebrity dropping an iconic one-liner during an interview or a cricketer walking out silently after delivering the performance of their lifetime. Even dropping cryptic posts that make one look mysterious and cold also counts as aura farming. In short, less is more; the less you try, the more powerful your presence becomes.
Origin Of The Term
The phrase was first popularised on TikTok in late 2023. It evolved from earlier internet slang like “main character energy” and ‘sigma energy”. The trend that was first started as a joke was then transformed into a viral term that became a cultural label used to describe how influence and perception work online today.
Aura farming also became a viral trend in India in 2025. It was widely used among cricket, Bollywood and reality TV fandoms. Post-match clips, viral arguments and iconic red carpet clips started being labelled as aura farming.

Celebrities who steer clear of drama but still control the narrative, such as Bigg Boss contestants, movie stars, and cricket players, are frequently referred to aura farm. In India, Gen Z users have embraced the word as a symbol of viral confidence, social domination, and subtle power without chaos.
