Exclusive: “There Is Nothing Like Settling Down,” Kusha Kapila On What She Unlearnt Living In A Patriarchal Society

The influence of patriarchy on us is everlasting. With time, things did get better but the core remains the same. As residents of this patriarchal setup, we’re often told to live, react and adjust according to certain pre-defined notions. But as one grows older, they free themselves from the shackles of what binds them and take the first step towards unlearning certain rules. Speaking about her takeaway from her older self, content creator and actress Kusha Kapila arrived on the latest episode of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist.

Here, Kapila revealed that she had to unlearn a lot of things, that patriarchy instilled in her. She says–”The biggest thing I’ve learnt is that there is nothing called settling down. These are all thoughts and ideas of social construct. You have to settle yourself first and that is your definition of settling down.”

Being a Delhi girl, Kapila revealed when she shifted to Mumbai, she believed she’d need people to get through this transition. She added–”But I needed myself and nobody. I needed to figure out stuff that I liked and that was enough. The best friend I have made in the last couple of years is me, myself. I am glad because I’ve gotten to know myself so well. And I am happy that I have myself always by my side.” Well, we agree with her. Women are often told to serve to their body clock and “settle down,” into a marriage or find a good man as soon as possible. But ladies, don’t fall for that trap. Do things when you feel it is the right time.
