What Did Bhumi Pednekar Said?
The Royal star Bhumi Pednekar opened up about the objectification and sexualisation of females that still happens in today’s films. She said, “Absolutely, women are sexualised, but objectification comes in many, many ways. Most times, through the years, in our films, women have been sexualised, and it has a very negative impact on people around and on society. For example, like whacking a girl, to us, it might be funny, but somebody living in a remote part of India might actually normalise it. That’s very problematic. And objectification of either gender is problematic.”
Bhumi Pednekar went ahead to talk about Ishaan Khatter’s character in The Royals and said, “In our show, the female gaze is strong that when you saw Ishaan being snaccky and I mean it with all the respect for him as an actor, I think it was done with so much tenderness that it did not feel gross but it felt beautiful. You want to succumb to his beauty.” Bhumi Pednekar smiled at Ishaan while passing on this sweet compliment to him.
