Sunita Ahuja On Govinda
Reflecting on their dating days, Sunita revealed that she played a pivotal role in shaping Govinda’s dance skills, which later became his signature on-screen charm. “When we were dating, we used to dance together a lot. My sister had married my brother-in-law (jijaji), and during family functions, we would compete for who danced better. The winner would get ₹50. It was always me who won!” she shared.
Interestingly, Sunita also revealed that Govinda’s debut film Tan Badan was initially offered to her. “That was my brother-in-law’s film, and the role came to me first. But I wasn’t interested in pursuing acting. That’s how Govinda got the opportunity,” she said.
Sunita humorously claimed that she has taught Govinda everything, from dancing to acting. “Whatever he does, I’ve taught him. Dance? I taught him that. Acting? He was already good, but I pushed him to improve,” she said with a laugh, adding how their early dance sessions helped cement their bond. The conversation also delved into their married life. Sunita shared that she tied the knot with Govinda when she was just 18 years old. “I was still a child myself, but I was madly in love with my husband,” she confessed. Marrying into a large, joint family, she recalled how Govinda had been clear about respecting his mother’s authority.
“When we got married, he told me upfront, ‘As long as my mother is around, whatever she says goes. Only after her will you have a say.’ And honestly, I got used to it. It became second nature for me,” Sunita explained.
