Exclusive: Sophie Choudry Talks About Establishing Boundaries With Fans, “I Have A No Hands Rule.”
Singer and actress Sophie Choudry opens up about fan interactions and boundaries she has established.

Establishing boundaries with fans is always a tricky job for celebrities. For many, it’s a dilemma because what is the line one can draw between harmless interactions like clicking a picture and saying no to protect your privacy and dignity? This is a very real problem, especially for female artists in the industry who are often called rude or unapproachable because of certain rules or requests that they want fans to follow while interacting with them.
In a recent interview with The Male Feminist hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan, India-based British singer and actress Sophie Choudry opened up about certain rules that she has while snapping pictures with fans. “I am very happy to take a picture with my fans, but I don’t want their hands to touch me,” said Sophie. She further elaborated on this statement by saying that there are times when people ask to take pictures with her and then slyly try to slide their hands to hold her waist.

Sophie says she has no problem taking pictures with fans as long as the fans are respectful, but if someone tries to touch her without her consent, then it is a problem. “Why should anybody be able to put their hands around me?” asked Sophie.
In the interview, Sophie also recalled a negative fan incident where some guys chased her around in a car. “I waited and then got out of the car [to confront them],” the actress recalled this particular experience by saying people try to provoke you just because you are a woman. Choudry followed up this statement by clearing a misconception that such incidents only happen in India. “Such incidents happen in many countries; they are not exclusive to India only,” concluded Sophie.
Sophie Choudary made her film debut in Bollywood with David Dhawan’s Shaadi No. 1 in 2005. She has also released two full-length albums featuring hit songs like ‘Zuby Zuby ‘ and ‘Dil Ke Armaan’. Choudry appeared in the reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Season 7 as a contestant.
