Sophie Choudry On Women In Indian Music Industry
On being asked how much the music industry is accepting towards women. Sophie Choudry stated, “When we talk about women in music, first of all, there are very few songs in films. So there anyway is less for women to sing. And secondly, it’s a very strange thing, but in terms of our listening audience. They listen to male singers more than they listen to female singers. It’s a very strange thing. It’s much easier to be a successful artist in this country if you are a man than a woman.”
Furthermore, the singer and actress also shared her thoughts on item numbers in films being questioned and its impact. She said, ” Helen aunty also used to do it too. People used to go to watch movies for Helen aunty’s songs. She is awesome. She is so graceful and so elegant, and people used to line up to watch every song. Item matlab? You’ve made the girl item. It’s a silly title to give a song.” Sophie Choudry also revealed that she said no to a lot of songs which had questionable lyrics. The singer and actress said, “They went on to become successful. I didn’t like them, so I didn’t do them. I found them very strange.” You can watch the video below!
