Body image issues can stem from our subconscious since childhood. It’s the way we perceive ourselves through the eyes of others or people calling out our flaws; it can get ingrained into our brains. It went so far that she thought she was ugly and couldn’t accept her body.

Jonita Gandhi On Facing Body Image Issues

During the exclusive chat, Jonita Gandhi said, “I had sidelocks on my face, and where I grew up, people used to call me Godzilla. I think this was because they thought I was ugly. Even Punjabi boys in my class would make fun of me, and I would think, I am your kind, your sister also probably has facial hair. So, when I was growing up, I thought I would never have s*x. Again, this was because of the same body image issues. I couldn’t accept my own body, so I thought, how can someone else accept it? No one used to flirt with me back then, but now they do.”

Jonita further talked about music helping her deal with her body image issues. She said, “I still have them, but I think music really helped me.  It made me feel like I was doing something different in life. I feel cool that I can make people dance and cry with my voice. That made me feel “cool” when nothing else made me feel “cool.” This helped me in the dating space also because I felt like I had something to offer.”
