Nowadays, conversations around menstruation have become a little more common. The importance of educating girls and even boys about it is being stressed, which is much needed. However, that was not the case earlier and women did not feel so comfortable talking about it. In the recent episode of The Male Feminist, Drishyam actress Shriya Saran shared about one such incident when she got her period at the airport but couldn’t ask for help from anyone.

While the authorities were doing her bag, she immediately rushed to the washroom and did not return for quite some time. Through this experience, Shriya Saran also highlighted how difficult it was for women to talk about menstruation. She further added, “I cried and I couldn’t say it to anyone.” Shriya also said that there were no pads at the Chennai airport but an air hostess helped her with one. Years later, while talking about this incident with Rajamouli’s wife, Shriya realised how talking about periods felt like such an impossible task back then.

This is something that I believe every woman must have experienced once in her lifetime. However, with increasing awareness about menstruation, nowadays, women also feel the confidence to talk about it openly without shying away. And let’s face it, it is a big part of a woman’s life and therefore should be treated some taboo.
