Exclusive: Ratna Pathak Shah Recalls An Incident Of Harassment In Delhi: “He Threatened Me When I Questioned Him”

In the latest episode, senior actress Ratna Pathak Shah shared her experience of growing up in Mumbai and how Delhi was opposite the City Of Dreams. The Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai star called Mumbai a ‘paradise’ in comparison to Delhi in terms of women’s safety.

Ratna Pathak Shak Compares Women’s Safety In Mumbai And Delhi
Dhak Dhak star Ratna Pathak Shah graced the recent episode of The Male Feminist hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan. The actress spoke about the vast difference in women’s safety between Delhi and Mumbai. Talking about her upbringing in Mumbai, Ratna Pathak Shah said, “I have never felt unsafe on the roads of Mumbai, we used to safely come back home after watching a 9-12 film. I was physically, much safer. The crowd was smaller and we were a civilized city, probably the only one in the country. And in comparison to Delhi, we were in a paradise.”

However, Ratna Pathak Shah also opened up about the incident of harassment that she had to go through in the city. She added, “Occasional grope in a bus or somebody touching me in the train. And it’s not normal.”

Ratna Pathak Shah further recalled an incident of harassment in Delhi. She added, “Back when I went to study in Delhi, ek ladka tha jisne kuch jumla kasa (there was this guy who tried making fun) in the middle of Mandi House with 100s of people When I turned back and asked the harasser what he said, he looked me in the eye and repeated it again and also threatened me. I was appalled to see that somebody who was at fault dared to speak back.” When Siddaarth Aalmbayan asked Ratna Pathak Shah about where she got the courage to confront the harasser, the actress firmly stated, “From Mumbai. In Mumbai, you are expected to call out the harasser, but not in Delhi and many other cities in India.”
