Priyamani On Female-Driven Stories In Malayalam Cinema
When asked about the popularity of Malayalam films across the country lately, the very recent one being Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, the actor responded, “It’s not off late, it has always been doing great.” Priyamani hailed female-driven films in Malayalam film industry, and said, “Females have always, they have always been strong, strongly written female roles, especially in the Malayalam industry. Even if it is not on par with, you know, a main lead, even if it is a character role, it is so powerful, it’s so wonderfully written. And the actors are also placed so powerfully, so prominently that you cannot take your eyes off them.”
Priyamani stressed on the importance of good writing and said, “I think that is the power. The power of writing, I think is what excels in the Malayalam industry. Be it whatever, take any genre you take, I think the way they write, the way they think is brilliant.”
The actor added, “And I would, yes, I also would say that because no matter the outcome, Malayalam films have been a lot of inspiration for many films, which is why they do remakes or they’ve taken inspiration from it and changed the story to suit the culture and the tradition and whatever. But I think from time immemorial, I strongly believe that the writing has been brilliant in the Malayalam industry.” Priyamani is also a big fan of how actors are strongly placed in the Malayalam films.
