Saying no as a woman in this world is a tough job. No matter how strongly one feels about the word no, some men perceive it to be a yes. In an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan, Four More Shots Please actor Maanvi Gagroo recalled an incident about a guy continuously hitting on her after she said no three times, and only backing off when she told him her boyfriend was on the way.

Maanvi Gagroo On The Importance Of Saying No

During the interview, Maanvi Gagroo recalled, “I remember once I was at a restaurant waiting for a friend because she was stuck in traffic. So while I was waiting, a guy asked me, ‘Can I buy you a drink?’ and I said no and then he went away. He again came after a while saying, ‘Oh what’s a pretty lady like you doing sitting alone’ and I said no, I can buy my own drink.”

She continued, “After that, he came for the third time, and he again asked me something, so I replied saying that my boyfriend was on the way. Even though my friend who was a girl was coming. And then he agreed to back off. Why wasn’t my no not important?”

Maanvi Gagroo further added, “My advice to women is always say a hard no at first. Because if after that the guy does something, despite you saying no, he would be in the clear wrong. I know it’s not easy to say in every situation, but try to.” This thing is so important and so little talked about. Why is a woman’s no always taken as a maybe? A no is a NO. If in 2024, we are having such a basic conversation of basic human behaviour, then shame on all the people who still don’t understand the meaning of it.
