In recent times, we have seen many movies about the toxic obsession with social media and its downsides. Sometimes, a movie could struggle with showing it in a very stereotypical way, which is just proof of the narrow understanding of this space. However, Babil Khan starrer Logout manages to get this right in many ways and during a recent conversation with the director Amit Golani, we tried to understand the stereotypes in storytelling that he consciously chose to avoid in this film. The director spoke at length about it, so read the exclusive here.

Amit Golani On Avoiding Storytelling Stereotypes

When asked about the storytelling and technical stereotypes that Amit Golani consciously chose to avoid in Babil Khan starrer e the director said, “There are two things. Firstly, for us, the topic was way beyond social media. Basically it was two layers. It was just social media’s dependence on the device, like it has started like entire life has become phone. So we were clear that we wanted to keep it about the phone, well, of course, social media is the subset. And secondly was the relationship between the obsessive fan and the celebrity. So that at the core was this emotional bond, which can be very disturbing if it goes to the extent that goes in the movie. So that was also a layer that we wanted to capture. That for us was very unique and had not been done enough.”

The writer of the film, Biswapati Sarkar, also spoke about the inspiration behind the film. He spoke about how a fan’s love for their favourite celebrities can quickly turn into aggression, and he further backed it by talking about an incident.
