It is quite common for fans to get unruly during concerts. Some people get overly enthusiastic and hyped up with the music, add alcohol to the mix, and it is a recipe for disaster. In an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan, popular singer Jonita Gandhi opened up about her experience with dealing with such fans during her shows. She shared some anecdotes and also talked about how she handles audience members who start behaving inappropriately with her during concerts.
What Jonita Gandhi On Inappropriate Actions By Audience Members In Shows
Jonita’s approach to managing unruly or inappropriate fans involves humour and sarcasm! “If someone is being oversmart, I get really sarcastic,” explains Jonita. She recalls instances when intoxicated audience members occasionally come on stage and express their desire to sing with her. Jonita has a clever method for handling this situation. In these moments, Jonita Gandhi responds by saying, “Well, why don’t they just pay you instead?” She mentions that she addresses the person via the mic, with a little annoyance clear in her voice.
Sometimes people also attempt to dance with her on stage, so now the singer’s team does not permit anyone to come up on stage. Jonita also pointed out that the type of shows an artist performs at makes a lot of difference. “I try to limit the shows for fans who (want to see) Jonita, not just any female act.” She further notes that sometimes, simply because people pay to see an artist, they feel as though they own them. Jonita says that this leads to increasing demands on the artist, such as performing more songs for longer periods.
